Ensuring protection and restoring dignity
IOM Burundi plays a crucial role in reducing protection risks by employing a comprehensive six-pillar approach to protection. Interventions target vulnerable groups such as internally displaced persons (IDPs), persons with disabilities, returnees, victims of gender-based violence (GBV) and human trafficking, children, the elderly, and female-headed households. IOM Burundi works closely with the Government of the Republic of Burundi, communities, and other stakeholders to provide direct assistance, capacity building, data research, dialogue, advocacy, and thematic guidance to mainstream protection across all sectors of intervention. By fulfilling its commitment to addressing the needs of the most vulnerable, promoting their rights, and mitigating protection risks, IOM Burundi supports individuals exposed to abuse, exploitation, violence, and neglect.
